Youth Leadership Council Advocates for Improvements in Child Welfare Services
In July 2017 CASA-NYC launched our Youth Leadership Council (YLC), composed of a group of current and former foster youth ages 18-25. YLC members are trained to speak out about their experiences in and aging out of foster care in order to advocate for improvements in the child welfare system, reflect a positive image of foster youth, and serve as role models and mentors for younger children in foster care. They have reached hundreds of child welfare professionals, family court judges and staff, youth in foster care and other stakeholders over the past year and a half, and are having an impact across the child welfare system in NYC.
